What you should know about us

When was Nottage and Ward founded?

Eunice Ward and Rosaire Nottage founded the firm in 1988
to specialize in divorce and related areas. Prior to that, both partners worked extensively in the area of divorce. Together they have over 20 years experience and have served over 500 clients. Formerly partner at Bell, Boyd & Lloyd, Rosaire Nottage brought a mastery of complex financial litigation to the firm. Eunice Ward is also an accomplished divorce litigator and in 2002 was named one of Chicago's thirty toughest lawyers by Chicago Magazine.

What makes Nottage and Ward different from other law firms?

Nottage and Ward practices exclusively in divorce and related family law matters. Lawyers with general practices or other specialties may not be suitably equipped to practice divorce law. The best divorce lawyer stays current with evolving matrimonial and domestic relations law, is knowledgeable about financial issues, is experienced in child custody problems and sensitive to the overall practical needs of the client. Nottage and Ward has years of hands-on experience with the divorce courts, judges and mediators in Cook, DuPage, Lake and McHenry counties.

Nottage and Ward is unique. Legal issues are considered in the context of the client’s emotional and financial realities. Where appropriate, outside psychological, vocational, and related services are employed to assist in resolving issues. Nottage and Ward aids the client in identifying and resolving the immediate issues, while framing individualized long-term solutions.

Who at Nottage and Ward would handle my case?

At Nottage and Ward, we believe in “team lawyering,” This means a partner and an associate will both be personally involved in your case, applying their unique skills and expertise as needed. Other lawyers are available to assist when their particular skills are required. You have at your disposal a collective braintrust of enormous knowledge, experience and dedication.

How much will my divorce cost?

Costs are determined by the time it takes to resolve the case. This has to do with a number of factors, including the comlexity of the case. As we assess each case, we discuss our fee structure with the client.

We encourage you to schedule a preliminary visit. For an introductory fee, we will review your situation and give you an outline of how we would advise you to proceed and what you could expect if you decide to go forward with us. Interview us. Make sure we are the people you feel suit you and your situation.

How long will it take to settle my case?

Again, much depends on the complexity of the case, but it has been our experience that a relatively simple case usually can be resolved in about six months. More involved cases or a vigorously contested matter may take longer.

What is Nottage and Ward’s approach to divorce law?

Our approach is two-fold — we address both the short- and long-term needs of the client; focusing on the ultimate resolution of the case while providing assistance with the immediate needs of the client. We recognize that with divorce issues, both time and money can be saved by solving differences out of court and we seek to do so whenever possible.

Will it be necessary to go to trial to settle my case?

Our goal is to assist our clients in resolving issues amicably. Nonetheless, a fair result often requires aggressive litigation. We strive to find settlements that best enable our clients to put the past behind them and successfully move on with their lives. We are trial lawyers and prepare to take a case to trial if necessary to protect or advance our clients interests. Our partners are accomplished and celebrated litigators who combine many of the advantages of a large firm with the sensitivity and personal attention required to pratice divorce law effectively.

Can Nottage and Ward help me if circumstances change after my divorce?

Yes, Nottage and Ward is experienced in handling post-divorce matters. Disputes often arise in the areas of child custody and visitation as well as enforcement which may necessitate further legal counsel after the divorce.
